Assumed to be a death portrait of Dr Levi Weil, a Jewish immigrant to London
(Inventory No 047 / Pe 096)

A possible original side view sketch, but could be from a cutdown print, presumably drawn in 1771.

Can the assumed identification be corroborated, and who drew the image?

Notes & Comments

The full image contains the following handwritten statement. "A jew Doctor who was hanged for a murder committed at Chelsea about 1771 or two." Above this in ink are what appears to be the initials Y C, which could refer to the artist.

Information about Dr Weil's criminal activities, and his hanging at Tyburn, London on 9th December 1771 can be found in various Internet sources.
