Pressed Flowers : 19th Century Album
(Thought to be from the former Glendoune House Library, near Girvan, Ayrshire)

The following List is compiled from a large album containing a significant selection of pressed flowers and plants. From the evidence to hand, the collection would appear to have been put together sometime during the first half of the 19th century, more likely around the period 1830-1850. It would appear that at least some of the samples may have had a medicinal or homeopathic connection.

Research so far suggests that Glendoune House at one time belonged to George Kirkpatrick Young who apparently sold the property to Spencer Boyd in 1845.  The collection may have been put together either by one of these owners, or any member of their families, or even possibly someone such a Head-Gardener, etc., if there ever had been one.  Any further information on the subject is very welcome!

S.F.H. gratefully acknowledges the assistance given by Dr Jeff Russel of Switzerland for his help with identification.
